We are looking for a motivated and technically capable Highway Asset Senior Officer – Trees & Soft Landscapes to join our Asset Management team and play a leading role in how Devon’s highway trees and soft landscape assets are managed.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with experience in environmental regulation or policy to help translate environmental objectives into practical, risk-based management of highway trees, verges and hedgerows, balancing public safety, network resilience, biodiversity and long-term value.
You will support the development and delivery of asset management principles, championing best practice and ensuring statutory duties and national Codes of Practice are consistently applied. The role requires a confident communicator with strong analytical skills, able to work collaboratively across teams while providing clear, evidence based professional advice.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Strategic lead for highway trees and soft landscape assets, including inspection regimes and risk based maintenance.
2. Use of asset data to inform maintenance programmes, priorities and reporting.
3. Contract and performance management of inspection and maintenance services.
4. Development and review of asset policies, procedures and standards.
5. Supporting and leading colleagues within the asset management team.
You’ll be part of a wider highways asset team with responsibility for managing and maintaining Devon’s highway network.
Based in Exeter, you will work closely with colleagues, partners and stakeholders across the County.
