Overview
Locum Consultant Radiologist with interest in Upper GI Imaging. We are seeking a dedicated radiologist with a subspecialty interest in Upper GI imaging to join the Radiology Department at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT).
The Upper GI imaging service provides a full suite of diagnostic modalities and collaborates with the Trust’s upper GI surgical, gastroenterology, pathology and oncology teams as part of a multidisciplinary approach to patient management. BHRUT is a regional centre for Upper GI cancer surgery and home to the Digestive Diseases Centre, which integrates gastroenterology, advanced endoscopy, and surgical services. The Trust performs over 18,000 GI endoscopy procedures annually; radiology plays a central role in staging, surveillance, and emergency imaging, with active participation in weekly Upper GI MDTs.
The department operates across two main sites – King George Hospital (KGH) in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. The organisation has opened new theatres at the Elective Surgical Hub in KGH and is introducing an electronic patient record system to improve staff and patient experience.
Responsibilities
* Attend and contribute to weekly Upper GI MDT meetings; part of a 1:4 MDT rota.
* Interpret and report Upper GI imaging studies; supervise and perform barium/contrast procedures.
* Teach and supervise radiology trainees and junior radiologists.
* Provide on-call coverage for general radiology; report urgent AE and inpatient CT scans during designated hours (weekday and weekend schedule as published).
Requirements
* Experience in Upper GI imaging with strong interpretative and reporting skills; commitment to continuing professional development.
* Ability to supervise procedures and contribute to MDT discussions.
