Electrical Design Engineer - Water / Wastewater
Location: Remote with bi-weekly travel to Peterborough (2 days every 2 weeks)
Contract: 12-month rolling contract (long-term programme - AMP8, 5+ years potential)
Rate: Up to £ per day (DOE)
Expenses: Door-to-door mileage, reimbursable lodge + £25 per night allowance
The Role
We are recruiting an Electrical Design Engineer to support a major AMP8 capital delivery programme within the water and wastewater sector. This is a long-term contract opportunity offering stability, flexibility and exposure to a £multi-billion investment programme.
You will provide high-quality electrical engineering design and technical support across water and wastewater treatment projects, working closely with multidisciplinary teams, supply chain partners and design managers to ensure safe, compliant and efficient project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Technical Delivery
1. Produce electrical design solutions for water and wastewater treatment assets
2. Prepare technical schedules, data sheets and specifications
3. Carry out engineering calculations (including pump, power and mass balance calculations)
4. Design electrical installation systems, including hazardous areas
5. Design incoming power supplies, control, monitoring, telemetry and instrumentation systems
6. Review and technically assess supply chain designs and bids
Project & Quality Assurance
7. Ensure all electrical deliverables meet required standards, specifications and MAS requirements
8. Maintain quality, consistency and accuracy across all technical documentation
9. Work with Senior Engineers and Discipline Heads to ensure designs are checked and approved
10. Identify and escalate risks impacting programme, cost or quality
Health, Safety & CDM
11. Produce safe, compliant designs in line with CDM Regulations and industry standards
12. Support the drive for health & safety excellence and a zero-accident culture
13. Ensure adherence to safe systems of work, audits and reporting procedures
Collaboration
14. Work closely with other engineering disciplines to manage interfaces and resolve clashes
15. Support Project Design Managers with technical guidance and innovation opportunities
16. Share best practice and contribute to continuous improvement across the programme
About You
Essential
17. Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering
18. Proven experience delivering electrical design within a project engineering environment
19. Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems in water or wastewater treatment
20. Experience producing calculations, specifications and technical documentation
21. Good understanding of health & safety, CDM and safe design principles
22. Strong communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills
23. Confident IT skills and ability to manage technical information effectively
Desirable
24. Experience working on large UK water frameworks or AMP programmes
25. Knowledge of multidisciplinary design interfaces
26. Experience working with Tier 1 contractors or integrated alliances
