The Role We currently have an opportunity for a Assistant Branch Manager in Swindon. The Assistant Branch Manager helps to manage staff, drive sales, maintain stock, ensure excellent customer service, and uphold health & safety standards. They often step into the Branch Manager's role when needed. Responsibilities and Duties Operational Support Assist in managing daily operations (opening/closing, staffing, etc.) Ensure smooth coordination between sales, yard, and delivery operations. Maintain branch appearance, cleanliness, and layout. Customer Service Deliver high levels of customer service to trade and public customers. Handle complaints or complex queries. Build and maintain customer relationships to encourage repeat business. Team Management Support recruitment, training, and supervision of staff. Monitor team performance and provide feedback or coaching. Help maintain morale and a positive work environment. Sales & Profitability Drive branch sales through upselling and strong product knowledge. Achieve and exceed targets set by management. Monitor stock levels and order materials appropriately. Health & Safety Ensure the branch complies with all relevant health and safety regulations. Conduct risk assessments and promote a safe working environment. Financial Controls Assist with cash handling, banking, and stock reconciliation. Support the Branch Manager in preparing reports and tracking KPIs. Skills & Experience Needed Experience in builders merchants, trade counter, or construction supply industry. Strong leadership and communication skills. Good understanding of construction products and building materials. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Basic knowledge of stock control systems and sales reporting.
