Description Position at SUMITOMO ELECTRIC U.K. POWER CABLES LTD. Electrical Engineer [Desired start date] Mid-June 2025 Role Purpose To manage all electrical equipment associated with, manufacturing processes. Supporting project engineering on current and new process developments. Direct electrical crafts team supported by Maintenance superintendent. Key Accountabilities Electrical Equipment - Accountable for all electrical repairs, and other maintenance activities, to all equipment and facilities within the site, including LV and HV systems. Ensure that all maintenance and project activities are undertaken in compliance with statutory and Company requirements in relation to Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety. Assist with the design procurement, factory testing and commissioning of equipment, machinery, and other facilities required for the new submarine power cable plant. Assist with all electrical maintenance in the submarine power cable plant once operational. This will include both reactive and planned electrical maintenance. Assist with ensuring all electrical planned maintenance procedures are developed and approved prior to plant operation. Assist with ensuring the Asset Management System is developed ahead of operations Electrical Craft Team - Efficient allocation of appropriate internal and external electrical craft resources, in order to maximise plant availability and product quality. Responsible for electrical uptime of all equipment. Scoping of all electrical work identifying resource requirements and time scales. Champion root cause investigation to eliminate failure. Provide technical leadership, professional advice and guidance to all electrical technicians. Responsible, alongside the Maintenance Manager, for electrical maintenance staff performance and development, including carrying out Performance Evaluations appraisals. Maintenance Strategy - Develop and implement maintenance strategy, under the guidance of Maintenance Manager, in order to maximise department efficiency (corrective, preventative and predictive maintenance). Assist with Plan, budget, and schedule facility modifications, including estimates on equipment, machine and other related costs focusing on mechanical This will require close working with other colleagues both in the Nigg factory and in Japan. Assist with introducing and maintaining ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other related standards. Partnerships and Teamwork – Collaborate with all members of the facility engineering department (electrical / mechanical) and the facility production department, as and when required. Assist in the design, commissioning and maintenance of new and current assets, in order to maintain operational performance. Collaborate with SMEs in the Headquarters and external consultants to ensure that all facility-related works are carried out efficiently and effectively. Special Aspects of the Position - Experience in implementing different maintenance systems and strategies. Estimation of workload resource requirements and timescale. Produce equipment uptime / downtime trends and show ability to engineer solutions to known problems. Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Experiences Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline, or with equivalent experience at a relevant engineering-management level. Proven experience and demonstrable success within in a similar position. Significant experience in electrical engineering associated with equipment in heavy industry, ideally heavy manufacturing industry Experience in electrical major construction projects would be advantageous, but not absolutely necessary 18th Edition IEE Regulations. Strong technical understanding of electrical engineering concepts, and interfaces with mechanical engineering activities. Experienced in design, writing and commissioning PLC code. Experience of continuous manufacturing processes is desirable. Strong management style and communication skills. Proven experience in estimation, planning and implementation of workload within a multifunction team. Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills. Proven ability to plan and resource both planned and emergency shutdowns to lines. Other Information Initially this position will largely be based in the Inverness office, although some travelling (including overseas) will be required. This position will largely be based in Easter Ross once the main manufacturing equipment installation work starts. Training opportunities will be provided to network with key players in the mother plant in Japan to learn about manufacturing processes or vendors of machinery About our project in Port of Nigg, Highland Sumitomo Electric is one of the leading global manufacturers of state-of-the-art high-end electricity transmission cables, up to and including 525kV HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) cable. The new factory at Nigg, with investment value announced by the Scottish Government of £350M, will make a significant contribution towards realisation of the UK Net Zero Target by contributing to critical electricity transmission infrastructure to connect and deliver renewable energy, including offshore wind, to UK consumers and beyond. In addition, the factory will create more than 150 highly skilled jobs in the Scottish Highlands, with maximum utilisation of the local supply chain for production of cables and construction of transmission cable systems. In a significant boost for the UK green energy supply chain, Sumitomo Electric has commenced construction of its state-of-the-art subsea transmission cable factory in the Scottish Highlands. The factory will supply critical elements for the reinforcement of the UK electricity transmission grid and for connecting renewable energy production facilities to the grid.
