Main Function of the Job

Operations

1. Ensure all required appointments are completed and responsibilities are communicated to the appointee, including additional appointments beyond existing H&S appointments for operational environments.
2. Provide Teraco Management with guidance on H&S legal and compliance matters.
3. Receive complaints, investigate, take immediate remedial action, and report safety concerns.
4. Ensure all safety files for contractors/subcontractors are complete, filed, and up-to-date. Compile a site safety file for Teraco and communicate legislative documentation to employees regularly. No subcontractor is permitted to work without a safety file, and they must be advised to compile the correct documentation based on their scope of work.
5. Investigate reports of dangerous working conditions and forward findings and recommendations to the Head of Infrastructure Development and Head of Infrastructure Management for redress.
6. Coordinate actions to remove dangerous appliances or chemicals.
7. Handle reports on workplace injuries, investigate causes, and ensure proper documentation, especially for construction site injuries.
8. Visit construction sites to ensure safety policies are implemented, conduct safety inspections, and report deviations for redress, documenting decisions, responsibilities, and timeframes.
9. Investigate incidents and accidents thoroughly.
10. Manage sub-contractors in relation to Health and Safety.
11. Issue safety documents such as toolbox talks, DSTIs, and checklists to supervisors.
12. Ensure no danger to health or safety of workers or visitors; accompany visitors on site tours.
13. Represent Teraco in meetings with SHE representatives regarding workplace health and safety.
14. Liaise with agencies for updates on legal regulations and safety/environmental initiatives.
15. Ensure all employees are inducted before working on site, covering hazards and safety procedures.
16. Review contractor method statements regularly, identify and communicate risks, and discuss H&S risks in daily meetings.
17. Develop and implement a fall protection plan for each project, ensuring proper evaluation and adherence.
18. Prepare site emergency evacuation plans and ensure all personnel are trained and supplied with copies.
19. Provide high-level first aid, evaluate injured persons, and complete accident reports, accompanying injured employees to hospital if needed.
20. Conduct accident and incident investigations, recommend remedial actions, and communicate with authorities as necessary.
21. Compile monthly H&S reports for ESG and Board.
22. Inspect high-risk activities and equipment, reporting deviations.
23. Chair monthly safety meetings, record minutes, and ensure corrective actions.
24. Conduct fire prevention and safety inspections, document findings.
25. Maintain safety registers, checklists, and signage.
26. Coordinate with security on site access and safety practices.
27. Maintain good housekeeping standards.
28. Coordinate employee safety training and inspections by safety reps.
29. Ensure conduct of toolbox talks and testing of personnel under influence.
30. Report all H&S incidents and near misses within 12 hours, support client and authority inquiries, and perform root cause analysis.
31. Participate in H&S audits and address findings promptly.
32. Prepare H&S reports and feedback for clients.

Fitout and Civil Projects

Responsibilities

Oversee health and safety during construction and fitout phases, ensuring compliance with laws, best practices, and company interests. Responsibilities include:

1. Review and approve construction H&S plans.
2. Ensure submission of necessary documentation to authorities.
3. Attend project planning and progress meetings.
4. Assess and approve contractor H&S plans.
5. Participate in site handovers and regular meetings.
6. Facilitate site health and safety meetings with H&S Consultants.
7. Ensure hazard and risk identification through regular inspections.
8. Maintain health and safety communication and documentation systems.
9. Develop and test emergency response and preparedness plans.
10. Conduct site safety inductions.
11. Evaluate subcontractor compliance through inspections and audits.
12. Oversee incident reporting and investigations.
13. Maintain all safety records.
14. Participate in management reviews and use trend analysis for improvements.
15. Update health and safety management systems as needed.
16. Review and update the overall health and safety plan.
17. Prepare technical reports on health and safety issues for decision-makers.
