This role supports data centre operations for CGI based between Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scotland, aiming to deliver the best possible service for all infrastructure and processes managed within the data centre.
Your future duties and responsibilities: The Data Centre Technician will be responsible for providing technical assistance and overall support to our clients during core business hours, Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 17:00, with regular scheduled overtime.
Responsibilities include the installation of racks, housing, network, and computer equipment. Each technician manages and implements installations, including shelves, power strips, rails, cable management, and customer IT equipment. They also identify hardware or cabling issues, replace internal components, and perform testing, tracing, and labelling of cabling.
The role involves liaising with global counterparts and third parties on hardware-related issues and processes. Additionally, the technician shares responsibility for maintaining standards of tidiness, cleanliness, security, asset information, and installation standards within the data centre.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role: Essential Experience, Qualifications & Knowledge:
Installation, decommissioning, cabling, and basic configuration experience to achieve optimal methods of working.
Cabling experience and knowledge.
Installation of rack mount kits including Dell, HP, Veritas, etc.
Hardware maintenance, including swapping failed customer-replaceable parts such as cache batteries, HDDs, and power supplies.
Highly motivated, with a positive and proactive attitude.
Desirable Experience, Qualifications & Knowledge:
ITIL v4
ServiceNow
Relevant data centre qualifications (e.g., CDCTP, CDCDP)
Manual handling certification/experience
ISO knowledge, especially around physical security
