Head of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) – Essex
Randstad Education is seeking a qualified teacher (QTS) with a passion for French and Spanish to lead a secondary school MFL department. The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping an innovative curriculum and inspiring a love of languages and culture in both students and staff.
Position: Head of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)
Location: Essex
Contract type: Full‑time permanent
Salary: Depending on experience and qualifications
Start date: ASAP
Qualification: A relevant degree and QTS, proven leadership experience
This is a permanent position requiring presence five days a week Monday to Friday inline with school hours.
Please note that this role is unable to offer any Sponsorship at this time.
All candidates will be subject to Randstad Education’s child protection and UK eligibility vetting, including a DBS check and satisfactory references. A DBS on the update service would be a distinct advantage due to the urgent nature of some of these roles.
Responsibilities
* Lead the MFL department, managing staff performance and professional development.
* Set the strategic direction for the MFL curriculum (KS3‑KS5).
* Be accountable for teaching standards and student attainment.
* Use student data to track progress and drive departmental improvement.
* Manage the departmental budget and resources.
* Lead and develop the extra‑curricular and enrichment programme.
* Ensure full departmental compliance with safeguarding and all school policies.
Preferred Skills
* A degree in French, Spanish, or a related language field.
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
* Significant experience as a secondary MFL teacher.
* Proven leadership experience within a school (e.g., Second in Department, Key Stage Lead).
* A strong track record of improving student attainment and exam results in MFL.
* Experience in curriculum design and strategic departmental planning.
* Skill in analysing student data to inform teaching strategies.
