Research Assistant/Fellow in Aluminium Alloys and Structural Manufacturing
The successful candidate will work for PIVOT project, making sure the delivery of project goals defined in an Innovate UK/APC project. The research activities will include: (1) understanding the performance of aluminium alloys with recycled materials through casting, microstructure analysis and tensile test; (2) microstructure and mechanical properties of aluminium casting samples under different conditions; (3) trials using industrial LPDC system at BCAST to make testing components to meet project requirements; (4) analysis of alloys and castings from project partners; (5) supporting the research activities to deliver new state of the art for automotives; (6) prepare project progress reports and final report of project; (7) prepare and deliver presentations at internal seminars and project progress meetings, and at national and international conferences. He/she is also expected to interact with other researchers in BCAST and research engineers from industry.
The successful candidate is preferred to have a PhD degree in materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering or another suitable engineering discipline. Research experience in solidification of metallic materials, and a deep working knowledge of microstructure and mechanical properties of metallic materials are essential. In addition, he/she should have good communication and presentation skills and be a team player.

Salary: Grade R1, Research Assistant: from £36,640 to £38,638 inclusive of London Weighting with potential to progress to £39,682 per annum inclusive of London Weighting through sustained exceptional contribution. Research Fellow: from £40,757 to £44,179 inclusive of London Weighting with potential to progress to £47,921 per annum inclusive of London Weighting through sustained exceptional contribution.
