Theatre Practitioner - Maternity

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of a new operating theatre team for Maternity. York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides care to women living in and around York, North Yorkshire and the East Coast, with an increasing demand on Caesarean Sections (elective and emergency).

We are looking for experienced Scrub Practitioners to join our Maternity operating theatre team in York and Scarborough. This is a golden opportunity to work within our Maternity multidisciplinary team and have a positive impact in our community.

To be successful in your application, you will need to demonstrate either 3 years’ experience in Maternity Theatres or 3 years’ experience in Gynae/GI/Vascular or Urology Theatres.

Part‑time hours are available with a minimum of 23 hours per week (2 shifts per week).

If you are currently employed by the Trust and wish to apply for this role on a secondment basis, please seek permission from your current line manager before applying for the post.

Note: The post may become Permanent at the end of this fixed‑term/secondment.


Main duties of the job

* Demonstrate and develop clinical assessment skills and the ability to prioritise the care for patients undergoing a surgical/aesthetic procedure.
* Actively support patients and their families, communicating clinical information using various methods, to ensure effective understanding.
* Contribute to the continuing development of patient care within the operating theatres, e.g., through sharing knowledge and expertise as required.
* Prepare and organise clinical area to receive patients for elective and emergency procedures.
* Safely identify, prepare, check and assemble equipment required for the relevant operating list.
* Adhere to the NMC/ODP professional Code of Conduct.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (Level 1) or qualified Operating Department Practitioner with HCPC registration or Anaesthetic Nurse (ENB 182/183 or equivalent).
* Teaching qualification.


Experience

* 3 years’ experience in Maternity Theatres or 3 years’ experience in Gynae/GI/Vascular or Urology Theatres.
* Willingness to train as a mentor.


Knowledge

* Awareness of current issues in Maternity Services within the NHS.
* Awareness of theatre specialty, and/or specific needs of patients undergoing surgical procedures.
* Awareness of evidence‑based practice within a Theatre environment.
* Understanding of Health and Safety / COSHH.
