As a Senior Technical Designer at NHQ, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering high-performing commercial workspaces for leading organisations across the UK and beyond. This position sits at the intersection of creativity, technical excellence, and project leadership. You’ll guide projects across all RIBA stages, from early concept development to technical delivery, ensuring design intent, buildability and client objectives remain seamlessly aligned.
Working closely with clients, consultants and our multidisciplinary design and project management teams, you’ll turn strategic goals into innovative, functional, and detail-driven spaces. What You’ll Do
* Lead design direction on assigned projects from pitch stage through delivery.
* Interpret client objectives and translate them into cohesive, thoughtful design solutions.
* Develop concept narratives, spatial strategies, and early-stage design material.
Technical Excellence & Documentation
* Produce, review, and manage detailed drawings, technical documents, and specifications.
* Ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance at every stage of the project.
* Coordinate with internal teams and external consultants to integrate architectural, MEP, structural and specialist inputs.
Project Delivery & Coordination
* Support and guide project teams throughout RIBA Stages 2 - 6, ensuring smooth progression and maintaining design integrity.
* Oversee technical coordination during construction, addressing queries, mitigating risk, and ensuring adherence to programme and budget.
* Contribute to project planning and resource management discussions, helping forecast deliverables and team requirements.
Client Engagement & Communication
* Participate in client workshops, presentations, and interviews to articulate design vision and technical strategies.
* Build strong, trusted relationships through clear communication, transparency and proactive problem-solving.
About You
You are a detail-driven designer with strong technical instincts and a passion for creating meaningful, high-quality workspaces. You enjoy collaborating with diverse professionals, mentoring junior team members and taking responsibility for delivering exceptional project outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Interior Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field.
* Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite.
* Demonstrable experience leading technical design packages and coordinating across multiple RIBA stages.
* Deep understanding of the commercial workplace fit-out sector, including both traditional consultancy and Design & Build methodologies.
* Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
* Proven ability to manage multiple projects, balance priorities and meet deadlines.
* Experience overseeing consultant coordination (MEP, engineering, specialist trades) is beneficial.
