The Good Oak (formally known as "The Oak") has been part of the local scene for years, and it's now entering an exciting new chapter under new ownership. We're currently giving the place a fresh new look and feel.
Soon, it'll reopen as a modern tavern with a laid-back vibe, serving up amazing Italian food and pizzas. Downstairs, you'll find a buzzing Italian tavern with wood-fired pizza and hearty hospitality, upstairs an intimate cocktail lounge with curated music and late-night energy.
We've got some brilliant staff staying on with us, and we're growing the team too. Everyone will get full training before we open - plus a chance to try out the new menu and drinks (tough job, we know).

Reports to : Head Chef
Salary: £45,000 per annum including tronc.
Hours: Shift pattern - The Good Oak is open Tuesday to Sunday you will be on a shift rota to fulfil your weekly hours.
Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced Sous Chef to support the Head Chef in managing the kitchen team and ensuring consistently high standards of food production, safety, and service. You will act as second-in-command in the kitchen, helping to lead menu execution, staff training, and daily operations, stepping into the Head Chef role when required.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Head Chef in overseeing all kitchen operations.
Lead and inspire junior chefs, ensuring food quality and presentation standards are met.
Supervise daily prep, cooking, and service during busy periods.
Ensure compliance with food hygiene, HACCP, and health & safety standards.
Manage stock control, ordering, and supplier relationships in the absence of the Head Chef.
Support menu development and contribute ideas for specials.
Train, mentor, and develop junior kitchen staff.
Maintain cleaning schedules and ensure equipment is safe and properly used.
Deputise for the Head Chef as required.

Qualifications & Experience:
Minimum 2-3 years' experience as a Sous Chef or Senior CDP in a high-quality kitchen.
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Professional Cookery (or equivalent).
Food Hygiene Level 2 (essential).
Knowledge of COSHH and HACCP procedures.
Previous supervisory experience.
