QUALITY AND SAMPLE TECHNICIAN ( HOME TEXTILES)

Our client a global home textiles brand based in Manchester are looking to recruit an experienced Quality and Sample Technician to join their team at head office. The role contributes to the quality development of product, commencing with pre-production samples, through to Gold Seal (Pre-shipment) samples and the subsequent inspection of first bulk into the UK Warehouse, where upon, the development can be classified as complete.
The identification of potential quality issues in sample development (Sewing, shrinkage, pilling, etc.) is communicated to the supplier in the development process, clearly and bulk checked against such communications upon arrival.
The role has “Sample” management responsibilities from the logging of product, washing, labeling, and storing for ease or retrieval. The role also covers the creation of orders for departmental needs such as testing.
Responsibilities and Duties
· Manage sample library of inbound samples. Booking in, storing, labelling development samples and gold seals. List them in order of importance.
· Manage inbound samples, weighing and measuring, booking in, storing, labeling.
· Inspect & Comment on Development samples (Measure dimensions, weight) ensuring communication with the suppliers via the appropriate product developer/product manager.
· Manage washing development samples calculating shrinkage.
· Sign off Gold seals and store at Regent House.
· Inspect the first delivery of a new development, communicating any failures to the product developer. (This would include travel to XPO within working hours)
· Determine ongoing product inspections, based upon the risk of poor quality by arranging samples to be delivered to head office, inspect and returning thereafter.
· Photograph faults, create CAFs (Corrective Action Form) in conjunction with th e Product Director & Product Development team, advising repair provider of the possible options to repair.
· Contribute to Design/Development quality commercial decisions as required.
· Maintain a “Supplier Quality Capability” log, in conjunction with the PD/ Agents, to determine the need for bulk quality inspections i.e. poor performers.
· Review and approve bulk production AQL reports pre shipment.
· Manage Sedex platform for brand in UK
· Follow up and monitor all supplier compliance approvals throug h Sedex.
· Manage all compliance requirements Supima, BCI, GOTS, Egyptian, STeP by OEKO-TEX® Made in Green, FSC.
· Provide a supplier performance report to the product developer, verbally, once per month.
· Carry out basic colour fastness tests i.e. cold water if required.
· As required from time to time assess, inspect, and report on returns working closely with customer service and sales teams.
Preferred Experience But Not Critical
· Practical knowledge of the inspection of fabrics, specifically towels and bedlinen.
· Knowledge of weaving, dyeing, finishing, and laboratory experience testing i.e. colour fastness, shrinkage, weighing, measuring etc.
· Basic Word, Excel, photography with respect to quality issues and the inclusion of those photos within the CAF documents, along with rejection/correction details.
· Experience and knowledge of working with industry bodies such as Control Union, The Shirley Institute, and certifications such as GOTS, GRS.
