Overview
This is an opportunity for an experienced, qualified and enthusiastic project management professional to join our Transport and Mobility Solutions (TMS) team supporting the delivery of Highway projects for predominantly contractor clients across the UK. As the Project Manager, you will be part of the project senior leadership team with a primary focus on overall technical quality, safety, risk, change control, programme, resource allocation, and commercial performance. You will report to the Project Director and work alongside a Design Manager, leading the wider team to deliver Highway projects from inception to handover and completion. This will include management of Design and Build or contractor-led projects from tendering and contract negotiation and administration, to detailed design and construction site services, and you may work on other highway projects as required.
You will liaise closely with multiple stakeholders, coordinate multi-disciplinary design teams, draft and manage the production of reports and tender documents, and monitor cost, schedule, health and safety, and quality assurance aspects of projects. You will contribute to a technical team and be a key member of the project team, liaising directly with the client, project sponsors and key stakeholders.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage Highway projects (Design and Build or contractor-led) from tendering and contract negotiation through to detailed design and construction site services.
* Ensure overall technical quality, safety, risk management, change control, programme, resource allocation, and commercial performance.
* Coordinate and lead multi-disciplinary design teams; draft and manage reports and tender documents; monitor cost and schedule.
* Manage Health and Safety and Quality Assurance aspects of projects.
* Engage with the client, project sponsors, and stakeholders; act as a primary point of contact with client Design and Engineering managers and procurement teams.
* Ensure compliance with the Designer’s obligations under CDM Regulations.
* Travel to client sites or other offices when required, possibly for extended periods.
Candidate specification
Essential
* Significant experience on highway design and build or contractor-led design projects in a project management or related role.
* Chartered status with a recognised engineering or project management institution.
* Experience establishing and leading project teams, delivering project success per company directives and contractual arrangements (including NEC).
* Experience establishing tender budgets, monitoring budgets, resolving cost overruns, and identifying cost reduction or revenue gain opportunities; ability to manage project capital and invoicing.
* Experience acting as the principal point of contact with the client’s Design and Engineering manager and commercial/procurement teams for commercial and contractual aspects.
* Understanding of the Designer’s obligations under CDM Regulations.
* Flexibility to travel to client sites or alternative offices as required.
Desirable
* Degree in Civil Engineering or a related subject.
* Project Management qualification or working towards one.
* Knowledge of risk management in project delivery.
* Experience managing projects through their lifecycle.
