About the job
Hi! We are Richard & Rob, founders of Kanda - we’ve built the UK’s market-leading platform for homeowners to spread payments on their home improvements (through local trades).
We were part of Y Combinator and raised our seed round from several US funds, plus incredible founders like James Park (Fitbit), Henry De Zoete (Look After My Bills), and Kenny Stone (PlanGrid).
As a regulated finance broker operating in the UK home improvement space, compliance is foundational to everything we do. We’re now looking for a Compliance Manager to work closely with the founders to develop, strengthen, and scale our FCA compliance as the business continues to grow.
This is a high-impact role with strong visibility across the business - you’ll collaborate with leadership, product, engineering, and operations teams to ensure Kanda remains compliant, trusted, and safe for customers and partners.
The highlights
* Competitive salary (dependent on experience)
* First week in-person, then fully remote (with occasional pre-planned company-wide events and team meet-ups)
* Work directly with the founders to shape and evolve Kanda’s compliance approach
* Broad scope across regulation, product, and operations
The role
As Compliance Manager, you’ll support the founders in ensuring Kanda maintains its regulatory obligations and continues to achieve high standards of conduct, governance, and platform safety.
You’ll be hands-on, pragmatic, and comfortable operating in a fast-moving startup environment - helping translate regulatory requirements into practical, scalable processes.
What you’ll be doing:
* Own Kanda’s FCA compliance framework as an authorised finance broker
* Act as a key point of contact for FCA-related matters, including regulatory queries, reporting, and audits
* Develop, implement, and continuously improve compliance policies and procedures (e.g. financial promotions, complaints handling, vulnerable customers, SYSC controls)
* Work closely with product and engineering teams to ensure customer journeys and platform features are compliant by design
* Oversee financial promotions review, approval, and monitoring across all channels
* Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on Kanda’s products, partnerships, and processes
* Support onboarding, due diligence, and ongoing oversight of lenders and home improvement partners
* Assist with incident management, breaches, and root cause analysis where required
* Help design and deliver compliance training to embed strong compliance awareness across the business
* Contribute to scaling compliance processes and tooling in line with business growth
What we're looking for
We’re looking for someone who enjoys collaborating with founders and teams to build strong, proportionate compliance in a growing business.
You’ll likely have:
* Experience in a compliance role within an FCA-regulated environment (fintech, lending, payments, or broking preferred)
* A good understanding of FCA rules relevant to consumer credit and financial promotions
* Experience developing and maintaining compliance policies and procedures
* Confidence working closely with senior stakeholders in a collaborative environment
* The ability to interpret regulation pragmatically and apply it to real-world products and user journeys
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* A proactive mindset with a bias towards practical solutions
Nice to have
* Experience working in a scaling or early-stage business
* Knowledge of the home improvement, construction, or point-of-sale finance sectors
* Experience collaborating with product and engineering teams
* Exposure to FCA audits, regulatory reviews, or permissions processes
Why you should join Kanda
Besides the typical benefits of working at a startup (flexibility, ownership, rapid learning, and broad exposure), joining Kanda as a Compliance Manager offers:
* The opportunity to work directly with founders and influence how compliance supports sustainable growth
* A broad, end-to-end view of a regulated fintech platform
* The chance to help shape a compliance culture that is practical, customer-focused, and embedded across the business
* Meaningful impact - protecting consumers, supporting tradespeople, and maintaining trust in a regulated product
* A strong mission - modernising two legacy industries, construction and finance, in the right way
Other than the product we are building, we see our workplace and culture as another product. We want to create an environment where people can grow, take ownership, and feel proud of the standards they help set.
