A diverse and ambitious secondary school in Lewisham is seeking to appoint a committed and forward-thinking Head of Humanities to lead its department from January 2026. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape a coherent and inspiring humanities curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4, with oversight of History, Geography, and RE.
The school has made significant strides in recent years, with strong leadership, an emphasis on inclusive practice, and improving outcomes across subjects. The humanities department is central to the school’s academic vision and benefits from a knowledgeable team, well-resourced classrooms, and enthusiastic learners.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing strategic and day-to-day leadership for the Humanities faculty
Line managing subject teachers and overseeing quality of teaching, assessment, and curriculum
Leading on curriculum development and ensuring high-quality schemes of work across subjects
Tracking pupil progress and implementing interventions to secure strong outcomes
Supporting whole-school priorities including literacy, cultural capital, and enrichment
Teaching a specialist subject (History or Geography) at KS3 and KS4, with potential for KS5
The ideal candidate will:
Hold QTS and have substantial teaching experience in a Humanities subject
Demonstrate experience of leadership or responsibility within a department
Be committed to delivering a broad, balanced, and ambitious curriculum for all learners
Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Show the ability to lead with integrity, purpose, and professional curiosity

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
