Offer Description
Looking for a post-doc project at the intersection of semiconductors and quantum technology, in collaboration with several partners across the UK and the EU? We have a position available at Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh) as part of the newly-funded "Integrated Quantum Networks" hub.
The project
Capitalising on our previous work on single spin centres in SiC (e.g. Nature Comms 2023: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-023-43923-7 ) and large-scale fabrication of photonic structures (e.g. Appl Phys Lett 2023: https://pubs.aip.org/aip/apl/article/122/17/173507/2887223; NanoLetters 2025: https://pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.1021/acs.nanolett.5c01325 ), we aim to develop SiC opto-electronic devices integrating electronic and photonic functionalities, with embedded single spin centres for spin-photon interfacing. SiC offers a unique opportunity to improve the properties of the spin-photon interface by leveraging on control on the electronic and photonic environment given by a mature semiconductor platform.
This project is part of the newly-funded "Integrated Quantum Network hub" (https://iqnhub.org/ ), led by our own Heriot-Watt University, including 14 universities and more than 40 non-academic partners. It will operate in synergy with the EU project QuSPARC (https://www.iqoqi-vienna.at/qusparc ). The ideal candidates will have some expertise in low-temperature optical spectroscopy of single quantum emitters and/or quantum technology.
Candidate requirements
The ideal candidates will have some expertise in low-temperature optical spectroscopy of single quantum emitters and/or quantum technology, and a track record of high-quality research and scientific publications.
