The Position
NHS Orkney has overall responsibility for the delivery and quality of medical education across the board area (across primary and secondary care). Directors of Medical Education (DMEs) are consultants or doctors appointed to NHS Boards.
The post-holder will aim to ensure that every trainee or student has the support required to allow them to reach their full potential. The post holder also ensures NHS Orkney delivers the standard of postgraduate medical education required by NES and the GMC. You will also be responsible for ensuring delivery of the education contracts between NHS Orkney and NHS Education Scotland and The Medical Schools for whom students are placed in Orkney.
The Candidate
You will have a sound understanding of current developments in medical education and the key issues facing NHS Orkney, with the ability to promote high-quality postgraduate education and training. You will bring strong interpersonal, facilitation and negotiation skills, enabling you to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and constructively challenge practice where appropriate.
You will have proven leadership experience, including managing staff, budgets and change, and will act as a credible champion for education quality. You will hold a Medical Degree, relevant postgraduate qualifications, and have prior experience in postgraduate medical education and leading change.

This post will be based at The Balfour
The successful candidate will work: Part Time 8 hours per week (2 PAs)

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NHS Orkney.

The salary for this post is dependent on speciality upon appointment at either Consultant or GP Scale
