The role
As a Vehicle Mechanic, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the UK’s defence capability. You’ll be responsible for servicing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of vehicles and electrical equipment—ensuring they’re ready for action when it matters most. This is a hands-on role where your skills will directly contribute to national security, while offering you the chance to grow your career in a dynamic and supportive environment.
Day-to-day you’ll be:
1. Carrying out servicing, repairs, and overhauls to meet production requirements
2. Diagnosing, inspecting, and assessing vehicles and associated equipment
3. Completing documentation and test certificates to current standards
4. Ensuring correct use of stores and returning unused or faulty items
5. Creating job cards and requesting materials using ERP (SAP) systems
Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or medical examination as a condition of employment for this role.
Please note that this position involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time.
This is a full-time, permanent role based onsite at Catterick. The set working times are Monday to Friday, totalling 37 hours per week.
Essential experience of the Vehicle Mechanic:
6. Previous experience in a similar mechanical role
7. Experience in a dealership or local garage
8. Hydraulics experience
9. Ability to adapt and build rapport across teams
10. Strong teamwork and communication skills
Qualifications for the Vehicle Mechanic:
11. NVQ Level 3 in Service and Repair or equivalent mechanical qualification
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
