Volunteers who support the project learn a wide range of practical conservation skills as well as being offered the chance to help with environmental education and public greenspace projects. The input of volunteers to a small project such as the Steel Valley Project is invaluable and proves crucial in the delivery of our project work.
The current volunteer teams carry out a range of various practical countryside management tasks for the benefit of wildlife and the local general public within the greenspaces and rural areas around the Stocksbridge & North Sheffield region. This can include Public Right of Way access maintenance and installation (strimming, installing benches, way-markers, steps, gates, fencing, dry stone walling etc.), woodland management (tree planting, coppicing, layering, tree felling and branch work), other habitat type management (hedge-laying, meadow management, heathland management), school workshops, raising environmental awareness and more.
