Roadside Recovery Mechanic / Technician - Norwich, Norfolk Area (Recovery Operations strictly limited to the Norfolk boundary)
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent (Shift Pattern)
Salary: £32,000 - £40,000 Basic, with OTE (Basic + Call-out + Shift Allowance + Overtime)
ARC Logistics is seeking highly skilled and empathetic Roadside Recovery Mechanics / Technicians to join a leading breakdown service provider. This is a high-impact role where you are the first point of contact for distressed customers, combining advanced technical fault-finding with professional vehicle recovery.
You will be a mobile mechanic who diagnoses and fixes vehicles on the spot, aiming for a high first-time fix rate. All recovery and breakdown services are performed exclusively within the Norfolk area. This role offers strong job security, ongoing technical training, and earning potential through a flexible, 24/7 rotational shift pattern.
Key Responsibilities
* Roadside Diagnosis & Repair (First-Time Fix): Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns within the designated Norfolk service area, diagnose complex mechanical and electrical faults across a wide range of vehicles (cars, vans, light commercial), and carry out effective on-the-spot repairs whenever safe and possible.
* Vehicle Recovery: Safely operate specialist recovery vehicles (e.g., flatbeds, spectacle lifts) to tow or transport vehicles that cannot be fixed at the roadside to the customer\'s preferred garage or home, operating exclusively inside Norfolk.
* Customer Care & Safety: Manage the scene of a breakdown, ensuring the safety of the customer, their passengers, and the public. Provide empathetic and clear communication to motorists who may be stressed or distressed.
* Compliance: Maintain meticulous digital records of all call-outs, parts used, and work completed via mobile diagnostic equipment and tablets. Adhere strictly to all road safety, WTD, and company regulations.
* Equipment Maintenance: Ensure your company vehicle, tools, and specialist recovery equipment are fully maintained, clean, and stocked at all times.
* Hybrid/EV Response: Safely handle and diagnose faults on modern Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (training provided if not already qualified).
Essential Requirements
* Technical Qualification: Minimum NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent IMI/City & Guilds) in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
* Driving Licence: Full UK Driving Licence (Category B) with no more than 6 penalty points. Category C1 (7.5T) highly desirable; for larger recovery operations, Category C (HGV Class 2) or C+E (Class 1) is a significant advantage.
* Experience: Proven, hands-on mechanical experience (minimum 3 years) in a garage, dealership, or mobile repair setting.
* Diagnostic Proficiency: Expert fault-finding skills using modern diagnostic software and equipment.
* Customer Focus: Exceptional communication, patience, and ability to manage difficult or high-pressure situations with calm professionalism.
* Flexibility: Willingness to work a rotating shift pattern covering 24/7/365, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, often alone and in all weather conditions.
