A leading UK defence technology organisation is growing its Environmental & Systems Proving capability and is seeking a Senior EMC Test Engineer to strengthen its in‑house Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) test function. You’ll work in a dedicated, state‑of‑the‑art EMC facility, supporting complex defence programmes..
The role
As a Senior EMC Test Engineer, you’ll be hands‑on in the EMC lab, running end‑to‑end test campaigns from risk‑reduction activities through to full qualification. Working closely with design, systems and project teams, you’ll simulate real electromagnetic environments, generate formal reports and help ensure mission‑critical hardware meets demanding defence and aerospace standards.
What you will be doing
* Planning and executing EMC tests in line with formal test plans and defence/aerospace standards (e.g. Def Stan, MIL‑STD‑461, DO‑160/ED‑14).
* Setting up, operating and troubleshooting EMC test equipment in a dedicated lab environment.
* Using tools such as Compliance 5 and EMC 32 (or similar) to control tests, capture data and analyse results.
* Producing clear, accurate EMC test reports and presenting findings to engineering and project stakeholders.
* Supporting risk‑reduction activities, qualification campaigns and continuous improvement of EMC test methods and fixtures.
* Working autonomously to deliver work on time and within budget, while adapting to evolving programme priorities.
What we are looking for
* Proven experience in EMC testing to defence, aerospace or comparable high‑reliability standards.
* Background in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Physics or similar, with a solid understanding of EMC and design principles.
* Hands‑on experience in an EMC test lab, including test set‑up, execution, data capture and reporting.
* Familiarity with EMC test software such as Compliance 5, EMC 32 or equivalent tools.
* Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.
