This role will manage the performance of the RCP’s two peer‑reviewed journals, ensuring punctuality, quality, relevance and metrics. The position is a hybrid working role in the Corporate Communications and Publishing team, requiring a minimum of 6 days per month in either the London or Liverpool office.
Key responsibilities include:
* Overseeing the peer review process for the RCP’s two peer‑reviewed journals, Clinical Medicine and Future Healthcare Journal.
* Commissioning articles based on discussions with the editors‑in‑chief.
* Ensuring ethical compliance relating to consent and approvals for studies.
* Managing online production on the ScienceDirect platform, liaising with the publishing partner.
* Tracking key performance metrics relating to the journals.
* Organising and delivering editorial board meetings.
* Working with editors‑in‑chief, head of publishing and partners to update policies and improve processes.
* Contributing to the development and implementation of the journal marketing and communications strategy, including social media accounts, email programmes, conference attendance, video and podcast production.
* Maximising opportunities with other RCP departments such as Education and Policy & Campaigns to encourage submissions aligned with RCP strategy.
About you:
* Degree level education, preferably in life sciences, or equivalent experience.
* 2–3 years of experience in peer‑reviewed journal publishing, preferably in the STM sector.
* Experience liaising with high‑level academics/doctors.
* Demonstrable attention to detail.
* Proficient use of MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel.
* High level of statistical numeracy.
* Basic understanding of copyright.
* Understanding of journal marketing in the STM sector, including use of social media.
