Job Title: Technical Director - BESS\n\nLocation: London – Hybrid Working\n\nClient:\n My client is a market-leading, multi-faceted renewable energy developer with a project pipeline exceeding 10 GW across Europe. They have successfully developed and executed over 3GW of projects in the last 10 years. \n Due to recent investment in their BESS department, they are now looking for a Technical Director to join their team and drive forward their success and support the business in achieving their short-term and long-term goals.
\n\nResponsibilities: \n Project Development\n\nAssist the Development and commercial team with technical assumptions.\nLead on initiatives to identify suitable areas for greenfield development.\n Project Structuring and Financial Close:\n\nLead the technical process for structuring and taking projects through to financial close.\nReview and finalize PPA, EPC, O&M, and Asset Management contracts from a technical standpoint.\nLead point of contact with EPC, O&M, LTA and deal team.\nEnsure technical compliance with the PPA, Grid Code, and project-specific requirements.\n Technical Oversight & Compliance:\n\nWorking with the Owner’s Engineer, ensure compliance with technical standards and contractual obligations during construction, including equipment procurement and timelines, are aligned with project objectives.\nWorking with the Owner’s Engineer, oversee detailed design and ensure all technical parameters are incorporated.\nManage contractor and supplier alignment on technical aspects, timelines, and grid connection requirements.\n Stakeholder Management:\n\nServe as the Internal Owner’s Engineer, representing company interests across all technical engagements with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders.\nCoordinate with subcontractors and manage design change requests.\nOversee site visits to ensure construction quality aligns with the design.\nManage commissioning processes and ensure utility compliance.\nDevelop sound relationships with key project OEMs, vendors, developers, service providers, consultants, etc\nContract and Performance Management:\n\nAssist with permits, licenses, and contract evaluations, providing technical inputs to EPC reviews and spare parts specifications.\nEnsure contracts with EPC and O&M providers reflect the highest standards and that duties of care are maintained.\nManage technical inputs to contract negotiations, focusing on performance guarantees and warranties.\n Execution & Delivery:\n\nProvide technical inputs for project reports and assist with lender and technical advisor clarifications.\nSupport site teams during construction, commissioning, and testing, ensuring that design and construction meet required standards.\nOversee the commissioning phase, working with the Site Commissioning Manager to manage testing and ensure grid compliance.\nEnsure the timely handover of technical deliverables, facilitating project close-out\n\nQualifications & Experience Required:\n\nRelevant Engineering degree in Mechanical, Civil or Electrical.\nMasters and/or Project Management certification will be advantageous.\nThe ideal candidate has a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in technical support, with a broad expertise in BESS, solar & renewable energy.\nExperience in leading technical support functions and managing complex projects is essential.\nYou are a strategic collaborator, capable of understanding technical drivers and working closely with various teams and procurement functions to ensure project success. Moreover, you are a motivated leader who thrives in a highly effective and innovative environment.\nStrong experience in EPC, O&M, and Grid Connection.\nProven experience in Technical Risk Management, especially during Financial Close and Execution
