The role

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role of the Lung Cancer Facilitator is to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the lung cancer waiting list. Patient activity is planned to achieve patient guarantees, utilising all available resources and minimising patient waiting times. The post holder will provide support to the Clinical Service Manager, Lead Clinician and Waiting List Manager to effectively manage and take an active role in the continual development of the lung cancer service, ensuring that the capacity is fully utilised across the service.


Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

* Location based in Glasgow Royal Infirmary
* Full‑time position (37 hours per week)
* Permanent contract
* Shift pattern: Monday to Friday, 08:30 am to 16:30 pm


Key responsibilities

* Manage the waiting list within the lung cancer service and ensure accuracy and completeness through appropriate staff.
* Ensure arrangements are in place to achieve the cancer waiting time targets within NHS GG&C as agreed with the Scottish Government and as committed to in the National Plan.
* Support the maintenance of the lung cancer database systems.
* Continuously develop the Lung Cancer Service and ensure capacity is fully utilised.
* Access information from the radiology electronic web‑based application and alert the relevant clinician for urgent review.
* Proactively obtain patient test results and present them to clinicians for review.
* Work to minimise patient waiting times and ensure no patient exceeds guarantees by identifying and highlighting long waiters to the relevant Service Manager / Waiting List Manager.
* Maintain electronic data storage (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
* Use the Microstrategy application to monitor cancer‑tracked patients.


Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job

Essential

* Experience in cancer services or complex healthcare coordination (e.g., respiratory/oncology/MDT).
* Strong organisational skills with meticulous data management; confident using NHS systems and Excel.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management across multidisciplinary teams.
* Ability to anticipate pathway risks, escalates appropriately and drives timely resolutions.

Desirable

* Knowledge of lung cancer diagnostics and pathways (CT, PET‑CT, bronchoscopy/EBUS).
* Experience with cancer waiting‑times reporting.
