Job Description

Hub Monitoring & Response Officer - fixed term until 30/06/2026. Peffermill Industrial Estate.

Salary: £26,337 - £28,835 (pro-rata for part-time)

Hours: 16 per week, 52 weeks

The Telecare service provides responsive and preventative support to over 8000 people living across the city in their own homes, facilitated by community alarms and other technologies.

We are seeking flexible and resilient individuals who enjoy a varied role and working as part of a close-knit team, to join our busy and dynamic frontline service.

The post holder will assist in providing emergency and support services to Edinburgh’s Telecare service users. You will offer advice and information to users, their next of kin and liaise with other council departments and outside agencies. You will visit users in their own homes and provide assistance and care to vulnerable adults.

The successful candidate will contribute to a variety of tasks that include answering calls from service users on the computerised calls handling facility, assessing the nature of an emergency call, prioritising the level of urgency, and responding accordingly.

You will visit service users, driving to their homes, and identify the extent of practical and emotional support required, contacting, and liaising with emergency services and other statutory /non statutory agencies when necessary.

You will provide emergency assistance in the form of First Aid, resuscitation, personal care and safer moving and handling using specialist equipment, where necessary.

You will develop your knowledge of the Assistive Technology Enabled care equipment and devices and support service users through demonstrating their use and assisting the team with installation and repairs.

You will maintain accurate records and statistics, and manage confidential records appropriately, where required.

You will be working to a 24/7 rota, which includes working 12 hour day and night shifts. Unsocial/ shift allowance payments of up to £7400 per annum.

Please note, the successful candidate will require a valid UK drivers licence.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.

Qualifications, training & professional membership:

* Good general education up to higher level with the required technical aptitude to service and repair equipment. (Desirable)
* Safe People Handling/Dynamic Risk Assessment qualified or the ability to achieve. Basic First Aid with the ability to achieve Advanced First Aid certificates.
* Full clean driving licence.
* Experience of carrying out personal care. (Desirable)
* Mechanical or practical skills qualification. (Desirable)
* Experience of first aid triage. (Desirable)

Experience:

* Working in a health and social care environment or similar.
* Working with people with illness or disabilities.
* Experience of communicating effectively via telephone in the work place and responding effectively in a variety of situations.
* Health and Safety policy and guidance application.
* Excellent knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety legislation. (Desirable)
* Knowledge and understanding of assistive technology including assembly and installation. (Desirable)
* Understanding of Technology Enabled Care Services Association Code of Practice. (Desirable)

Knowledge Skills and Understanding:

* Self-motivated with the ability to carry out duties and minimal supervision and the ability to work under pressure.
* Proven ability to be able to carry out personal care in emergency situations.
* Good IT skills and proven ability to use a variety of systems.
* Must be fit and able to provide essential frontline intervention and prevention role in the delivery of a 24/7 Assistive Technology Enables Care service, underpinned by the Technology Expansion Care Services Association Code of Practice.
* Ability to risk assess, identify hazards and recognise solutions.
* Significant experience of understanding of the impact of physical and mental illness and or disabilities.
* Have good knowledge in assessing, deploying and changing Telecare, independent living and mobility aids/equipment.
* Have an advanced technical understanding of Telecare, independent living and mobility aids/equipment to carry out installation, repair, maintenance and de-installation of simple to complex solutions.
* Experience working within a health and social care environment providing care on a 24/7 rota basis. (Desirable)

Communication:

* Ability to explain and demonstrate assistive technology use to service users.
* Demonstrate good written and verbal in order to be able to communicate effectively in a clear manner.
