Description
Knowsley Council is seeking an experienced and passionate Locum Social Worker to join our dynamic Child Protection team. This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable children and families, working in a supportive environment with a strong focus on quality practice, supervision, and manageable caseloads.
Based in Knowsley, you will work alongside skilled colleagues in a high-performing team committed to safeguarding children and promoting their welfare.
Responsibilities
Manage a caseload of children subject to child protection plans, children in need, and pre-proceedings work
Undertake thorough assessments and create effective, outcome-focused plans
Engage children and their families to build positive, strengths-based relationships
Chair core group meetings and attend child protection conferences, strategy meetings, and legal planning meetings
Prepare clear, evidence-based reports for conferences, reviews, and court proceedings
Work collaboratively with partners across health, education, police, and voluntary agencies
Ensure all interventions comply with relevant legislation, policy, and statutory guidance
Promote the voice of the child and prioritise their welfare at every stage of interventionRequirements
Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration
Significant experience in statutory child protection, including court work and child protection planning
Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989, Working Together 2018, and other key legislation and guidance
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to manage complex cases in a timely and proportionate way
Confident in making sound, defensible decisions in line with safeguarding thresholds
Prepared to work flexibly in a busy team environment
Full UK driving licence and ability to travel within the boroughHow to Apply
