The Role
As a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you'll play a vital role in maintaining, repairing, and improving factory equipment to ensure production targets are met. You'll be involved in both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repair work, contributing directly to overall equipment efficiency and reliability.
This role combines a wide range of maintenance skills, including fitting, welding, fabrication, and diagnostics, in a busy and dynamic production environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Carry out essential mechanical maintenance and repair work
2. Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to minimise downtime
3. Attend and respond promptly to breakdowns and faults
4. Ensure all machinery and systems meet safety and compliance standards
5. Maintain critical spares and equipment registers
6. Support installation and commissioning of plant machinery
7. Contribute to improving factory Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
8. Promote Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices
9. Use diagnostic and testing equipment to locate and rectify faults
10. Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and adhere to company quality systems
Skills & Experience Required
Essential:
11. Level 3 qualification in a Mechanical Engineering discipline (or equivalent)
12. Proven experience in a manufacturing or factory maintenance environment
13. Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental processes (EHS)
14. Diagnostic experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and drive chains
15. Bearing fitting and alignment experience
16. Knowledge of electrical control systems
17. Basic fabrication and welding (MIG/ARC)
18. Good communication skills and a team-focused approach
19. Physically fit and able to work in a hands-on engineering role
Desirable:
20. Completed mechanical apprenticeship
21. HNC/HND qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
22. Experience in heavy manufacturing or brick production environments
