Role Summary
Position: MTC Support Officer (Grade 6) – Full‑time Permanent
Location: University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham, UK
Salary: £33,002 – £35,608 (potential progression to £39,906)
Closing date: 4th January 2026
The post-holder will coordinate and administer day‑to‑day MTC activities, maintaining up‑to‑date communications with stakeholders, databases and the coordination of meetings. The role supports the MTC Service Manager and Production Manager, providing an efficient central point of contact and facilitating the development and implementation of new business.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate donor recruitment process from request to recruitment (including handling absence of relevant personnel).
* Facilitate the coordination of FMT delivery to NHS sites.
* Maintain MTC donors and patients database.
* Be flexible with working hours (potential early start).
* Act as the quality control releasing officer for Specials under training.
* Approve and monitor suppliers goods receipt, designate and monitor storage areas/units for materials and products.
* Install, validate, calibrate, maintain, and clean new equipment.
* Develop and strictly implement written procedures and documents as part of the MTC quality management system, train technical staff on new developments, and contribute to internal/external audits and regulatory inspections with corrective and preventive actions.
* Assist the Quality Manager with identification of assessment, root actions and non‑conformances related to manufacture or quality control risk cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
* Assist in the instigation and implementation of appropriate procedures for controlling changes related to manufacture or quality control.
* Assist the Quality Manager with trending of environmental monitoring data quarterly.
* Complete maintenance and appropriate management of all records associated with quality duties, ensuring appropriate review and sign‑off.
* Assist in the implementation of laboratory health and safety.
* Be willing to be trained in FMT production activities and be able to verify documents.
* Prepare certificates of analysis.
* Support the University’s sustainability agenda through resource‑efficient working.

Qualifications & Experience
* A graduate with a good honours degree, with experience in health care and/or higher education.
* Proven relevant administrative skills with experience of coordinating and supporting clinical or scientific projects.
* Deep understanding of the supply of unlicensed medicinal product (Specials) and relevant MHRA guidance.
* Experience of GMP and pharmaceutical quality management systems.
* Clear and articulate communication and high‑level interpersonal skills to establish key relationships internally and externally.
* Experience of external communications, especially producing promotional material, web‑based and conventional.
* Excellent IT skills, particularly in spreadsheets and database management; ability to develop sophisticated output and monitoring/reporting systems.
* High attention to detail, methodical approach, prioritisation skills, and demonstrable problem‑solving abilities.
* Excellent writing and minute‑taking skills.
* Ability to work proactively with little supervision under pressure and to deadlines.
* Ability to work on own initiative and make confident decisions while recognising limitations.
* Experience working in a medical research environment; understanding of scientific/medical terminology.
* High degree of professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and discretion with sensitive information.
* High initiative, personal judgement, resourcefulness, flexibility, and self‑motivation.
* Ability to work effectively in a large complex organisation and understand the workings of higher education institutions.
* Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010 and how to actively ensure fair treatment of protected individuals.

* Work activity determined by the Centre Lead and Line Manager in collaboration with the MTC Operational Group.
* Work towards tight deadlines, priorities and schedules with guidance from Line Manager and Centre Lead to develop and implement work objectives.
* Require forward planning, and also be reactive to enquiries or problems.
* Plan with stakeholders the most efficient use of resources; use appropriate techniques to ensure results delivery.
