Job Overview
We are expanding the service within the Department of Developmental Paediatrics based in Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking to appoint a Consultant in Developmental Paediatrics to expand the service offer, reduce waiting times, and help shape the new service, particularly with the new Alder Hey Children’s Hospital site and a forthcoming Neuro Developmental Centre. The post is full‑time but part‑time post‑share arrangements can be considered.
Core Responsibilities
* Structured weekly activities: 8.5 PA direct clinical care and 1.5 PA supporting professional activities.
* Clinical responsibility for referrals from Primary Care, other consultants within the Trust, Child Mental Health, Social Services and Education, with flexibility according to the successful applicant’s skills.
* Clinical work with vulnerable children, looked‑after children, developmental delay, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
* Assessment, diagnosis and management of ADHD and ASD in collaboration with dedicated ADHD/ASD services and specialist nurses.
* Evaluation of behavioural problems to identify underlying developmental aetiologies.
* Joint MD spasticity management clinics and complex care clinics in special schools.
* Collaboration with LD teams, CAHMS and development of pathways to improve access to services.
* Development of pathways and protocols to improve care for children with complex needs, including follow‑up services for high‑risk infants with adverse perinatal events.
* Teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates, and provision of clinical and educational supervision.
* Offer training in child development to health personnel and partner agencies.
* Develop research interests and projects within the area of expertise.
* Supervise junior staff.
* Participate in departmental and local authority meetings related to strategic planning.
* Take an active role in service review and development with fellow consultants.
* Participate in CPD activities with financial support available, initiate and undertake appropriate audits within the department, and take part in the clinical governance programme.
* Opportunity to support the safeguarding service if this is an area of interest, with the role adjusted in the job plan accordingly.
