SEMH SEND Teaching Assistant
Are you passionate about making a real difference in a child’s life? Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated, resilient, and compassionate 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a school in Sidmouth.
This rewarding role involves working closely on a one-to-one basis with a pupil who requires additional emotional and behavioural support to access learning and thrive in a school environment. It is ideal for individuals with experience in SEMH, behaviour support, pastoral care, youth work, or those looking to build a career in SEND education.
Role: 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sidmouth
Pay Rate: £90–£100 per day
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm

As a 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:
• Provide dedicated one-to-one support tailored to the pupil’s individual needs
• Support emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social development
• Implement behaviour support strategies and EHCP targets
• Help remove barriers to learning caused by anxiety, trauma, or challenging behaviour
• Build a positive, trusting relationship to support engagement and progress
• Promote resilience, confidence, and self-esteem
• Support during transitions and less-structured parts of the school day
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and pastoral teams

We’re Looking For:
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs (desirable but not essential)
• Transferable experience from care, youth work, mentoring, coaching, or similar backgrounds
• A calm, patient, and consistent approach
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• A genuine passion for supporting children’s emotional wellbeing and development

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
