The Electrician (EV Charger Installer) is responsible for installing, testing and commissioning domestic and commercial electric vehicle charging systems. The role includes carrying out electrical works to industry standards ensuring safety, compliance and excellent customer service. This position is key to supporting the transition to low carbon transport and delivering high quality EV infrastructure.
Duties and responsibilities
Core responsibilities will include:
* Install domestic and commercial EV charging points in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
* Carry out electrical wiring, containment, cable routing, and connection works safely and to regulations.
* Test and inspect installations, completing all necessary certification and documentation.
* Commission chargers, configure software/apps, and verify full system functionality.
Safety & Compliance
* Ensure all work complies with the latest IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
* Complete Electrical Installation Certificates (EIC) and Minor Works Certificates.
* Conduct risk assessments, work safely at all times, and follow company H&S procedures.
* Maintain safe working practices when working outdoors, in confined spaces, or near live systems.
Technical & Diagnostic Support
* Perform fault finding and repairs on existing EV chargers and associated electrical systems.
* Advise customers on charger usage, load management, and energy optimisation.
* Identify and report any defects, hazards, or issues requiring escalation.
Customer Service & Communication
* Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, and suppliers.
* Provide clear explanations of installation processes and system operation.
* Maintain a courteous and tidy approach while working in homes, offices, or public environments.
Planning & Documentation
* Ensure all documentation, testing records, photos, and job reports are completed accurately.
* Manage stock, tools, and materials effectively.
* Liaise with scheduling teams regarding planned jobs and potential changes.

* Follow all Environmental Management System (EMS) procedures and contribute to achieving the company’s environmental objectives and targets.
* Ensure proper waste handling, prevent spills and operate machinery to minimise emission
* Reduce paper usage, ensure secure disposal of confidential material, manage procurement with environmental criteria.
Essential Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications
* Qualified Electrician with NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
* 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
* Experience installing electrical systems (domestic or commercial).
* Strong understanding of RCDs, circuit protection, load management, and earthing.
* Confident using electrical testing equipment and completing certification.
* Good problem solving ability and attention to detail.
* Experience installing EV chargers (home or workplace).
* EV charging qualification (e.g., City & Guilds 2919).
* Experience with smart chargers, back-office systems, or load balancing solutions.
* Knowledge of renewable or low carbon technologies (solar PV, battery storage).
* Personal Track Safety (PTS)
Qualifications & Certifications
* NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
* 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
* ECS Gold Card (preferred).
* City & Guilds 2919-01 or 2921 (EV Charging Installations) – desirable.
* Full UK driving licence (required).
Working Conditions
* Field-based role involving travel between sites.
* Work may be indoors or outdoors in varying weather environments.
* Occasional evening or weekend work may be required depending on customer demand.
* Manual handling, working at height, and confined space tasks may be required.
