Job role: Senior Mechanical Estimator
Client: Leading Building Services Contractor
Location: Cambridge
Salary: £65,000-£75,000 + package
Our client are a respected and forward-thinking building services contractor specialising in large-scale commercial projects valued up to £10 million. Renowned for delivering high-quality MEP installations across sectors such as offices, education, healthcare, mixed-use developments, and data centres, they are now seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join their growing team.
The Role
As Senior Mechanical Estimator, you will play a key role in securing major projects and shaping the commercial success of the business. You’ll be responsible for producing accurate, competitive mechanical estimates and tenders, working closely with the pre-construction, design, and project delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
•Prepare detailed mechanical estimates for commercial projects up to £10m.
•Analyse drawings, specifications and tender documents to produce accurate cost breakdowns.
•Lead mechanical pricing for design & build and traditional tenders.
•Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.
•Identify value engineering opportunities and propose cost-effective alternatives.
•Work collaboratively with internal teams to support winning bids.
•Attend client and consultant meetings as required.
•Assist in handover to project delivery teams, ensuring clarity on scope and assumptions.
About You
•Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within building services.
•Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC, public health and associated plant.
•Track record of estimating large commercial projects (£1m–£10m)
•Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
•Strong commercial acumen with excellent attention to detail.
•Confident communicator able to build relationships with clients, consultants and suppliers.
•Proficient in industry-standard estimating software and Microsoft Office.
