Senior Biomedical Scientist – Clinical Biochemistry
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced Biomedical Scientists for the role of Senior Biomedical Scientist within the Clinical Biochemistry laboratories at University Hospitals Dorset (UHD).
Base location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital. The role requires cross-site working at Poole and Bournemouth; flexible working arrangements are essential.
Key responsibilities include:
* Help manage and coordinate the day-to-day technical activities of the Biochemistry Department, prioritising work so that a safe and timely service meets patients’ needs.
* Coordinate and participate in the routine processing of specimens; allocate work to other BMS and Associate Practitioner staff to ensure a smooth workflow.
* Act as deputy for the Laboratory Manager when required.
* Ensure that specialised and urgent specimens are appropriately dealt with.
* Participate in technical work as required.
* Organise and participate in the training programme for all staff within the department.
* Ensure appropriate maintenance and safe use of equipment.
* Assist in the development of rotas in conjunction with the other senior biomedical staff and ensure they are operated correctly; liaise with the other senior BMS staff to provide continuous cover from the start of each day.
* Coordinate adequate supplies of laboratory consumables and reagents and coordinate their stock control.
* Contribute to audit activities.
* Contribute to the maintenance and development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Applicants should have extensive experience in all aspects of Biochemistry at a specialist level and be well‑motivated and able to lead colleagues. Excellent organisational and communication skills are required. The successful candidate may need to work out of hours to support the service.
Applications from candidates currently enrolled on a suitable MSc programme (or equivalent) will be considered.
