Systemic Family Therapist
This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to work within the Doncaster CAMHS team as a band 7 Systemic Family Therapist. The successful applicant will have completed master’s‑level training in Systemic Family Therapy at a university and accreditation with the UKCP. Applications from individuals currently undertaking the relevant Masters training may also be considered if enrolled.
The post holder will work in our Getting Help pathway within CAMHS, closely collaborating with family therapy, CBT, and clinical psychology colleagues. Excellent communication skills, motivation, self‑direction, and the ability to manage one’s own caseload are required.
The role will be supported by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist who is Care Group Lead for Psychological Professionals. Together there will be an expectation that a robust structure for service delivery and clear staff development opportunities are in place.
Main duties
• Provide autonomous specialist assessments, care coordination and treatment to children and young people with a range of psychological and emotional disorders.
• Offer consultation and education to Trust staff and external agencies.
• Deliver expertise in all aspects of Systemic Family Therapy to clients, carers and significant others.
• Support the Team Leader in clinical supervision and in providing support to colleagues.
Whilst in training a specific development plan will be agreed with the lead family therapist, including duties and responsibilities in keeping with a training post that will aim to fulfill the full band 7 Family Therapy job description.
Qualifications
* A professional Nursing, Occupational Therapy or Social Work qualification with current registration.
* Specialist Qualification in CBT, FT or other appropriate therapy.
* Degree or equivalent qualification.
* Completed or currently undertaking a formal training programme in Clinical Supervision.
Experience
* Demonstrable post‑qualification experience, including working with young people with complex mental health problems and specifically with children and families.
* Managing and prioritising a complex caseload.
* Experience of multi‑disciplinary working.
* Currently engaged in an advanced level of practice and capable of demonstrating a degree of professional autonomy.
* Ability to provide patient‑centred assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation with children, young people, parents and families using mental health nursing skills.
* Ability to undertake risk assessments and identify appropriate plans in partnership with the young person, families and other agencies.
* Planning and delivering presentations and training to groups.
* Experience in delivering comprehensive family work in a child and family setting.
Knowledge
* Theoretical and practical knowledge in child and adolescent mental health and awareness of key drivers in the field.
* Highly competent in making decisions regarding ongoing patient care based on clinical and risk factors.
* High level of problem‑solving and planning skills.
* Effective communication skills across all disciplines and agencies to optimise patient management.
* Awareness of own competency level and how to seek appropriate help.
* Understanding of confidentiality, risk management, childcare protection and safeguarding policies and the requirement to report concerns to the appropriate agency and participate in case conferences as required.
* Familiarity with clinical audit, research and clinical governance principles.
* Understanding of NHS and social care policy and the importance of public relations.
* Knowledge of research, audit and quality‑improvement methodologies.
* Understanding of assessment procedures for children suspected of having ADHD, ASD and other conditions.
Skills
