H eritage & Culture Learning & Participation Officer, Newark Castle Fixed term to April 2029 37 hours per week NS6 £25,992-£27,269 per annum (pay award pending) Do you believe that heritage should inspire everyone, no matter their age or background? Are you passionate about unlocking the past and making it meaningful for today’s audiences? If so, we’ve got an incredible opportunity for you. We’re looking for a dynamic, creative Learning and Participation Officer to join the award-winning Learning and Participation team as part of Newark and Sherwood’s Heritage and Culture team. Working for the Newark Castle Gatehouse Project, you'll be at the heart of bringing this iconic site’s dramatic stories – from medieval monarchs to civil war sieges – to life in exciting, inclusive ways. Whether you're leading an immersive school session, sparking curiosity in a family workshop, or collaborating with community partners and volunteers, playful, inclusive learning and engagement will be at the heart of everything you do – with no two days the same! One moment you might be dressed as a medieval servant; the next, facilitating thoughtful discussions with A Level students, handling artefacts, or planning materials for our website that connect people with the castle’s rich history. We’re looking for someone with a background in formal and/or informal education, with a flair for engaging storytelling, and a genuine passion for sharing Newark’s beloved castle with wide audiences. You’ll be a confident communicator, self-motivated, and brimming with playful ideas that can spark learning across generations. You will relish delivering engaging sessions for families, young people and our communities, as well as be willing to research and work independently to bring these sessions to life. This role is fixed term, full time, and is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. We can offer a competitive salary, the benefits of flexible and agile working, a generous holiday allowance that increases with service, £10/month gym membership at one of our four gyms across the district, free staff car parking to June 2026, and a very competitive occupational pension. In addition, you will be joining a professional and passionate team, committed to collaborative working. For more information, or for an informal discussion about the role, please contact Denise Greany – Learning and Participation Manager on 01636 655606 or email denise.greany@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk.
