Job Description:
A Consultant Surgeon is required in Vascular Access and Renal Transplant Surgery/Renal Surgery to join the Renal Surgical team at St. Georges University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to support the excellent adult renal transplant surgical service and dialysis access surgery.
The appointed surgeon will be expected to participate in the existing renal surgical program, which includes live and deceased donor (DBD & DCD) renal transplantation, vascular access surgery, and laparoscopic donor nephrectomy.
Main duties of the job
Transplantation surgery is performed at the St Georges hospital site whilst vascular access surgery is performed at both St Georges and St Helier Hospital in Carshalton. The unit performs approximately 180 transplants per annum at St Georges and is responsible for the surgical management of approximately 1000 haemodialysis patients across South West London.
The successful candidate will also contribute to medical student audit and clinical research. The new Consultant would be expected to take an equal share in this work. The on call rota runs on a 1 in 6 basis to cover the needs for transplant.
The post represents an exciting opportunity to join an enthusiastic, developing renal surgical team. The appointee will join five substantive full-time Renal transplant Consultants alongside seven Consultant Physicians as part of the Renal Care Group.
The current job plan is divided between providing surgery at St Georges Hospital and St Helier Hospital as well as providing outpatient clinics at both sites. The post-holder will have an operating list and outpatient clinics at both St Georges Hospital and St Helier Hospital. These commitments may change during the tenure of the post as the service is developed, with the agreement from the clinical management team.
