Role Purpose
Deliver finished furniture, components and materials safely, on time and in excellent condition (around 80% of the role). Support the workshop with housekeeping and general labouring when not on the road (around 20%). The role is customer‑facing on sites and in client homes, so care, courtesy and clear communication are essential.
Key Responsibilities
A. Delivery Driver (80%)
* Plan routes and delivery schedules; confirm site access and contact details in advance.
* Prepare and load: wrap components, use blankets/edge protectors, and secure with straps to load‑restraint best practice.
* Deliver kitchens, cabinets, worktops, appliances and materials to client homes, showrooms and building sites using safe manual‑handling techniques and team lifts.
* Capture delivery evidence (photos, signatures, timestamps) and update digital records on a phone/tablet in real time.
* Communicate professionally with clients, fitters, subcontractors and site managers; provide accurate ETAs and escalate access or damage risks early.
* Protect customer property (floor protection, corner guards, clean gloves) and leave work areas tidy and undamaged.
* Collect goods from suppliers; verify quantities and condition before departure.
* Complete daily vehicle safety checks; manage fuel, mileage and service bookings; report defects immediately and remove vehicles from service if unsafe.
B. Workshop Labourer (20%)
* Support general workshop tasks: moving materials, basic sanding/denibbing, sweeping and waste management.
* Load/unload deliveries; check goods in against purchase orders and flag discrepancies promptly.
* Carry out general workshop and facilities maintenance as directed.
Skills & Experience
Essential
* Full UK manual driving licence; confident driving long‑wheelbase vans/box vans up to 3.5 tonnes.
* Proven experience in multi‑drop or furniture/joinery delivery, including heavy team lifts.
* Excellent attention to detail; able to handle high‑value, hand‑finished products without damage.
* Clear, courteous communicator; comfortable with clients and site teams.
* Competent with smartphones/tablets for navigation, photos and basic forms.
* Reliable, punctual and organised; able to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
* Experience in a joinery/cabinet‑making or building‑products environment.
* Knowledge of load‑restraint best practice; manual‑handling training.
* Forklift licence (or willingness to train).
* Familiarity with Devon and Cornwall routes and access constraints.
Requirements & Checks
* Right to work in the UK.
* Satisfactory driving record (endorsement check) and recent employer/reference checks.
* Willingness to work occasional early starts/late finishes to meet delivery windows.
* Ability to lift and carry 25–35 kg with safe team lifts; comfortable working on feet most of the day.
* Commitment to health & safety, including risk assessments, PPE and safe systems of work.
Working Hours & Pay
* Full‑time (40 hours). Typical pattern: Mon–Thu 07:00–17:30.
* Overtime or flexible start/finish times may be required to meet delivery schedules.
