Overview
We are seeking a Midwife or Nurse with a passion for Infant Feeding to join the team and provide specialist advice and support across the perinatal areas of the division. This is a dynamic role in a maternity department with a multi-disciplinary infant feeding team that works closely with NICU and the Regional Milk Bank. The role is BFI accredited and involves contributing to development to reach Gold standard or Achieving sustainability in 2026. Responsibilities
* Provide individualised specialist advice for mothers and babies with breastfeeding difficulties.
* Support the Infant Feeding Specialist Midwife in Maternity and the Infant Feeding Specialist Nurse in NICU with duties and responsibilities as directed.
* Prepare and complete audits as directed by the BFI framework, including implementing any action plans.
* Conduct BFI audits with mothers, families and staff.
* Provide expert teaching for the mandatory study days for maternity unit staff.
* Work with the Infant Feeding Specialist Midwife and Nurse to implement action plans agreed by the Maternity Matrons and Head of Midwifery.
* Be able to work independently when based in community clinics.
* Engage with ongoing development and specialist training related to infant feeding.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Qualified Midwife or Nurse with an interest and experience in infant feeding.
* Current role aligned with perinatal care and a willingness to work across maternity and NICU settings.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development in line with BFI accreditation and maternity service standards.
Organisation and Working Environment
The service at North Bristol NHS Trust is based at Southmead Hospital and provides obstetric services to the catchment of North Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. The maternity department is one of the largest in the country and was awarded Good by the CQC. It handles more than 5,200 births each year, offering three places of birth.
