Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialist
We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and compassionate Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialist to join our Parkinson's nurse team. This post will be based predominantly at Queen's Hospital Burton site and will play a key role in delivering high-quality, person‑centered care to people living with Parkinson's and related movement disorders in East Staffordshire.
The post holder will also have regular clinical sessions at Royal Derby Hospital and Florence Nightingale Community Hospital to maintain integration into the UHDB Parkinson's multidisciplinary team.
Main Duties of the Job
* Provide expert clinical assessment, management, and support for patients with Parkinson's Disease across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings.
* Act as a key point of contact for patients, families, and carers, offering education, advice, and continuity of care.
* Work autonomously while collaborating closely with specialist nurse, consultant, and wider MDT colleagues.
* Lead on care planning, medication optimisation, symptom management, and long‑term condition support.
* Contribute to service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Deliver education and training to staff and students.
* Support smooth transitions between primary, secondary, and community care.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
* Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration.
* Substantial post‑registration experience, ideally within neurology, elderly care, or long‑term conditions.
* Advanced clinical assessment skills and the ability to work independently.
* Excellent communication, teaching, and organizational abilities.
* Experience in a specialist Parkinson's or movement disorder service.
* Non‑medical prescriber or willingness to work towards this.
* Evidence of ability to problem‑solve, analyze, and interpret complex information to reach a clinical decision.
* Evidence of ability to manage own workload and prioritize appropriately.
* Evidence of training and educating colleagues.
* Evidence of participation in audit and/or research.
* Formal qualification or specialist training to master’s level or equivalent expertise in specialty.
* Independent non‑medical prescribing qualification.
