About the Role
Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting a Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant on behalf of one of our partner specialist provisions in Bridgend. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced SEN professional to work with pupils who present complex additional learning needs (ALN) in a structured, nurturing environment.
This role is suitable for candidates with proven experience in specialist settings who are confident supporting children and young people with a range of learning, emotional, behavioural, and communication needs.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with complex SEN/ALN
Support learners with needs including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties, sensory processing needs, and learning disabilities
Implement strategies outlined in Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and behaviour plans
Support emotional regulation, routines, and transitions throughout the school day
Assist teachers and professionals with differentiated learning activities
Use specialist strategies to manage behaviour positively and safely
Promote independence, engagement, and social development
Maintain accurate records and follow safeguarding procedures
Essential Requirements
Previous experience working in a specialist SEN/ALN provision, SEN school, PRU, or equivalent setting
Specialist SEN training and/or qualifications, including some or all of the following:
Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC/ASD) specialist training
Team Teach, MAPA, or equivalent positive behaviour management / de-escalation training
Manual Handling training (essential due to pupil mobility and personal care needs)
SEMH-focused training or relevant experience
Trauma-Informed Practice
Attachment Awareness training
Makaton, PECS, or AAC communication systems
Sensory Processing / Sensory Integration training
Understanding of complex needs, inclusive practice, and person-centred support
A calm, resilient, and flexible approach to supporting pupils
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Desirable Training & Experience
Emergency First Aid at Work / Paediatric First Aid
Medication Administration training
Personal Care / Moving & Positioning experience
Positive Handling Plans experience
CACHE Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent)
Welsh language skills (desirable but not essential)
