The Role
This post is a Specialist technical post within the NHSL Pharmacy Homecare team. The aim of the team is to manage all aspects of homecare for patients in NHSL who receive medication via this route. The post holder along with the Senior technician and pharmacist will be responsible, for maintaining the governance around the supply of these medicines, completing the repatriation of patients currently supplied from Glasgow, attending homecare groups, liaising with clinicians, patients and homecare companies. The Pharmacy Homecare technician will also carry out general duties associated with homecare services including placing orders and processing invoices, answering queries and maintenance of databases. Part of the role will involve management of prescriptions, documenting, dealing with and escalating any clinical issues and dealing with any problems / complaints in relation to home care.
In this key role, you will:
1. Assisting with the development of the existing homecare service and contributing to the development of new medicine / services to patients in their own home.
2. Assisting with horizon scanning, liaising with finance, pharmaceutical industry, home care providers and clinical staff to ensure any new services are appropriately planned.
3. Monitoring homecare supplier adherence to contractual obligations and existing service level agreement
4. Communicating with patients to resolve queries or issues they may have with the homecare service they receive.
5. Working closely with the Pharmacy e procurement team
6. Assisting with the development of purchasing systems to ensure contract prices are maintained.
7. Organising and maintaining electronic and paper systems for efficient and accurate storage of records relating to patients and the services they receive.
8. Measuring and auditing service and supplier performance as required
9. Recording homecare service information to spreadsheets, databases and the CMM pharmacy Computer System
What You'll Bring:
10. National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent
11. Registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
12. Dispensary checking qualification.
13. Experience in dispensing Discharge/OPD/in-patient prescriptions
From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
