About the Role
The Technical Project Manager (TPM) leads the delivery of complex naval architecture and engineering projects, ensuring that intelligent, well‑controlled engineering actively enables ambitious design, performance, and buildability. With a strong engineering background, the role provides clear leadership across assigned projects - coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing technical scope, quality, schedule, and delivery hours.
As a client‑facing role the TPM builds trusted relationships, representing Lateral with clarity, confidence, and technical authority. The position includes structured review and checking of engineering outputs, safeguarding technical integrity while protecting architectural intent. Working closely with designers, vessel owners, and shipyards, the TPM translates the project design vision into practical, buildable solutions while maintaining control of programme commitments and agreed engineering scope.
Beyond project delivery, the TPM contributes to continuous improvement, supporting the development of Lateral’s culture of building engineering curiosity, knowledge, skills, methods, and tools that strengthen Lateral’s long‑term capability.
About you:
* Proven marine industry experience: minimum 6 years’ working, and delivering naval architecture and/or marine engineering projects.
* Strong project delivery capability: experience of teamworking and managing engineering scope and supporting timely delivery.
* Planning, control, and resource awareness: ability to plan personal and team workloads, contribute to resource forecasting.
* Commercial and contractual awareness: understanding of how engineering work is defined, measured, and delivered.
* Leadership and collaboration skills: experience coordinating and motivating project teams, fostering clear communication, accountability, and alignment with agreed objectives.
* Professional communication and behaviours: strong written and verbal communication skills, with behaviours aligned to, or exceeding, Lateral’s professional and leadership expectations.
Responsibilities & tasks overview:
* Technical Leadership & Engineering Assurance: technical oversight of assigned projects, ensuring quality, feasibility, and early risk identification
* Controlled Project Delivery (Scope, Schedule, Hours): manage delivery against scope, schedule, and engineering hours
* Client Interface and Professional Representation: primary technical contact for assigned projects, supporting clear, timely communication
* Team Coordination and Multidisciplinary Integration: brief, coordinate, and supervise project teams across disciplines
* Governance, Reporting and Commercial Control: ensure accurate time booking, reporting and project control data
* Continuous Improvement and Capability Building: contribute to lessons‑learnt processes to improve delivery, quality, and collaboration
