About the Role
The Design Engineer will work collaboratively within a cross-functional Product Team to design, test, and deliver new products and continuous improvement projects that combine performance, user experience, and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
Designing and developing sustainable products, components, and systems that meet customer, business, and environmental requirements.
Conducting validation testing and supporting prototype and production development.
Staying up to date with industry trends, materials, and emerging technologies to drive innovation.
Ensuring all designs comply with relevant regulatory, safety, and reliability standards.
Producing comprehensive manufacturing specifications, including detailed drawings and engineering BOMs.
Delivering design solutions that meet performance, cost, and manufacturability targets.
Supporting additional product development and engineering activities as required.
Candidate Profile
Essential:
Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering (HNC/HND/apprenticeship considered).
Proven problem-solving ability and a passion for creating sustainable, practical design solutions.
Experience in designing with plastic materials.
Proficiency in 3D CAD systems (SolidWorks preferred).
Competence in Microsoft Office software.
Ability to produce clear, detailed technical reports.
Desirable:
Experience in a product design or consumer goods environment.
Knowledge of machined brass components and mechanical tolerancing.
Familiarity with the electrical consumer product sector.
