Salary: £55k Pro Rata Term Time Only - you may be asked to work between 8am-6pm required to be discussed at interview.
uReach is a quality alternative provision driven by the purpose of supporting young people to reach their full potential. We are equipped to support students in Years 1-6 with autism and ADHD as a primary need at our Alternative Provision centre in Sindlesham, Wokingham.
Job Purpose:
The Alternative Provision (AP) Education Lead is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational management, and overall success of the AP Centre. This role ensures the provision of high-quality, inclusive, and effective educational support and therapeutic support to students who are unable to access mainstream education due to a variety of complex needs (e.g., social, emotional, mental health difficulties, medical conditions, behavioural challenges, or those at risk of exclusion). The Manager will lead a team of dedicated staff, foster a positive and nurturing learning environment, and ensure excellent outcomes for all students, preparing them for future success in future education, employment, or training.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Management:
* Provide strong, visionary leadership to all staff within the AP Centre, fostering a culture of high expectations, continuous improvement, and student-centred practice.
* Oversee the day-to-day operations of the centre, ensuring smooth and efficient running.
* Line manage, appraise, the mentoring team
* Support the DSL / Director of Inclusion on the safeguarding and welfare of all students, acting as the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL). Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including safeguarding, health and safety, data protection (GDPR), and SEND regulations.
2. Curriculum and Student Outcomes:
* Support the Director of Inclusion with the design, implementation, and review a bespoke and engaging curriculum that meets the diverse needs of students, promoting academic progress, personal development, and well-being.
* Ensure the curriculum offers appropriate pathways to re-integration into mainstream Oversee the tracking, and reporting of student progress, ensuring the interventions and activities are timely and effective.
* Monitor and evaluate the quality of mentor modeling and support, providing feedback and professional development opportunities for staff.
* Implement strategies to improve student attendance, engagement, and behaviour.
* Champion a restorative approach to behaviour management, promoting positive relationships and conflict resolution.
* Work collaboratively with mainstream schools, local authorities, and other agencies to ensure seamless transitions and integrated support for students.
3. Student Support and Well-being:
* Ensure a safe, supportive, and therapeutic learning environment for all students.
* Oversee the implementation of individualised support plans/ targets from Education, Health and Care Plans - EHCPs, Personalised Learning Plans
* Coordinate access to specialist support services (e.g., CAMHS, educational psychology, speech and language therapy) as required.
* Promote students' social, emotional, and mental health through targeted interventions and a nurturing environment.
* Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, their families, and carers, ensuring effective communication and partnership working.
4. Stakeholder Engagement and Partnership Working:
* Build and maintain strong relationships with mainstream schools, local authorities, parents/carers, and external agencies.
* Support Director of Inclusion as a point of contact for external stakeholders regarding the AP Centre.
* Report to the Director of Inclusion on the performance and progress of the AP Centre.
* Promote the work and successes of the AP Centre to wider stakeholders.
* Participate when required in relevant local authority and multi-agency meetings.
5. Facilities and Resources:
* Oversee the maintenance and development of the AP Centre facilities, ensuring a safe, clean, and conducive learning environment.
* Manage resources effectively, including equipment, technology, and learning materials.
Person Specification:
Experience:
* Significant experience of working with vulnerable children and young people with complex needs, including SEMH, challenging behaviour, and/or medical conditions.
* Proven leadership and management experience within an educational setting, ideally within an AP, SEND, or alternative provision context.
* Experience in supporting and assessment for diverse learners.
* Experience of managing staff, including performance management and professional development.
* Demonstrable experience of successful multi-agency working and partnership building.
* Experience of budget management is desirable.
* Full clean driving licence
