We're looking for a dynamic Test Manager to join Phlo to lead and mature our company-wide testing function. This is a critical role that will report into the Head of Product and will help shape how quality is owned and delivered across the organisation, uplifting both manual and automation testing processes.
You'll be responsible for setting and evolving our test strategy, ensuring our teams have scalable and efficient testing practices, and driving strong cross-functional collaboration across Product, Engineering, Design and key business stakeholders. Most importantly, you'll help foster a culture where quality is a shared responsibility — and where testing delivers measurable business and user impact.
As a start-up moving into our scale-up phase, we're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment, can build and develop high-performing teams, and can support Phlo's mission by ensuring our products remain safe, reliable, and patient-centred.
The Job
On a day-to-day basis, you'll be involved in the following:
* Leading and evolving Phlo's company-wide test standards and strategy, including scalable practices for test planning, execution and prioritisation aligned to business goals
* Shaping and guiding the adoption of effective and adaptable testing methods, tools and automation approaches — including AI-assisted and low-code/no-code solutions — to optimise efficiency and quality
* Driving consistent defect discovery and triage practices across teams, ensuring issues are handled in line with delivery and business priorities
* Championing a risk-based testing approach to focus effort where it delivers the greatest user and business value
* Leading by example through hands-on testing activities when required, particularly in high-risk, complex, or time-sensitive delivery scenarios
* Ensuring manual and automated testing work together effectively, improving coverage, reducing reliance on manual testing alone, and supporting faster testing cycles
* Building and embedding domain and product expertise across the testing function, ensuring testing aligns with product strategy and delivers meaningful outcomes
* Establishing strong stakeholder communication practices, supporting transparency, collaboration and continuous improvement
* Creating a culture of problem-solving, shared ownership of quality, and cross-functional alignment across Product, Engineering and beyond
* Managing the performance, development and wellbeing of the testing team, building an inclusive, motivated and high-performing function
* Leading hiring, onboarding, and team growth as Phlo expands its products and testing needs
Requirements
Ideally, we're looking for someone with the following:
* Senior testing professional with experience leading and maturing a testing function
* Strong people management skills, comfortable coaching, developing, and growing a testing team
* Solid manual testing background, with the ability to provide senior guidance and structure
* Willing to remain hands-on when needed, leading by example and supporting teams during critical delivery periods
* Experience bridging manual and automated testing to deliver effective, scalable coverage
* Product-focused mindset with experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
* Comfortable operating in a start-up / scale-up environment, balancing pace with quality
Benefits
And in joining Phlo, you'll receive:
* Salary between £55,000 and £65,000 depending on experience
* Opportunity to join a high-growth online pharmacy
* Regular collaboration with other teams in the business (product, engineering, design) to continually shape and enhance our services
* Company Bonus Scheme – up to 10% depending on performance
* 33 days annual leave (inclusive of 8 bank holidays)
* An extra day of annual leave for every complete year of service, up to 5 extra days
* An extra day off for your Birthday to prolong the celebrations
* Pension scheme – 5% employer contribution
* Private Medical Insurance via Vitality
* Duvet Days to rest and reset
* 8 x free professional counselling sessions to support your mental health
* Bereavement Leave policy covering family, friends, pets, and miscarriage
* Enhanced Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Pay after 1 year of service
* Fertility Leave to support your journey to parenthood
* Charity Day to support a cause that's important to you
* Dependant Leave to take care of the people who rely on you
* Pawternity Leave to welcome a new pet
* 20% Staff Discount on Phlo Clinic products
