We are looking for a Health Care Assistant to join our team, here at Stillington Surgery. The position shall be part time to provide flexibility for a good / work life balance. We require someone with experience who can provide safe and efficient services. We are a small Practice with a humble team, valuing respect and honesty.
Main duties of the job
To provide direct patient care under the supervision of our registered nurses to ensure we provide personal care, mobility support, monitoring patients conditions and maintaining a safe environment.
Work safely and accurately, being committed to the delivery of high standards within the Practice, working within our established processes, policies and procedures to provide a comprehensive high-quality service and deal efficiently and courteously with patients and all members of the practice team.
About us
We are a small rural GP Practice located near the historic City of York. We have a patient list size of around 3,700 patients, a large proportion of whom are dispensing.
Job description:
Job responsibilities:
* Using appropriate Infection Control procedures, assist in maintaining the health and safety of the whole Practice team and service users, ensuring that risks are identified and escalated
* Carrying out new patient health checks
* Carrying out baseline patient observations e.g., blood pressure, pulse, temperature, pulse oximetry
* Carrying out pre-diabetic checks
* Carry out & complete INR
* Obtaining venous blood samples
* ECG Recording
* Acting as a chaperone when required
* Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs, nurses and Secondary Care services
* Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients' health and well-being, including patients with Long Term Conditions and Learning Difficulties
* Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
* Carry out wound care as directed by Practice Nurses, including removal of sutures and clips
* Administer flu, pneumococcal, shingles vaccines and Vitamin B12 injections under the supervision of Practice Nurses and Patient Specific Directions
* Ordering, maintaining and rotating stock of Practice equipment and supplies (including personal protective equipment, pathology consumables etc.).
* Clearing and restocking consulting rooms, and maintaining surgery equipment, including emergency equipment
* Carry out vascular assessments, Doppler/ ABPI, blood pressure of the whole body
* Assisting with the management of clinical waste, including sharps boxes, removing from clinical areas, and replacing in accordance with Infection Control and Health and Safety policy
* Assisting in monitoring and recording vaccine stocks, in accordance with the Cold Chain Policy and fridge temperatures and the cleaning of fridges
* Ability to use ICE, complete data entry & find templates appropriate for the task in hand, completing all to the standard expected of an HCA
* Prepare and maintain environments and equipment, before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs and Nurses during the performance of minor procedures e.g., minor operations, joint injections etc.
* Help to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted and supporting patients to access interventions where appropriate. This will include smoking cessation and weight management
