The Job Profile
Simon & Schuster UK's, Adult Editorial Operations team is looking for a talented Project Editor to work on the prestigious literary Scribner and Summit lists. They will help the team publish the most exciting and distinctive talent in literary fiction and non-fiction and champion our books and authors with clear vision and creativity, ensuring they are a success critically and commercially.
The Job Role
Reporting to the Editorial Operations Director, the Project Editor - Literary will work alongside commissioning editors in-house, the project editor will take a complete manuscript through all stages of the editing process, coordinating with authors and with agents when necessary, freelancers, the editor, and the production and design departments to ensure that assigned projects are delivered within deadlines and budgets and to ensure the smooth running of our Scribner and Summit publishing schedules.
The Project Editor - Literary will review copyedits and liaise with authors to resolve queries, manage proofs and corrections, and ensure accuracy across text and jackets. They will oversee freelancers and budgets, compile and clear illustrated material where required, brief covers and draft copy, manage metadata and internal systems, and read submissions to provide feedback to acquiring editors.
They will work closely with authors and agents on all elements of the text and cover, ensuring prompt communication and swift replies to queries and providing authors and agents with the highest standard of care.
The Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be able to work in a busy editorial team, with the credibility to sign books off to press. They will be able to work on their own and take responsibility for the accuracy of the finished product, work well to deadlines and have a meticulous ability to project manage. They will have an awareness of publishing systems and timelines, show demonstrable knowledge of copyediting or line editing and proofreading. They will have excellent communication skills both written and verbal, experience of working closely with authors, agents, freelancers and internal stakeholders. A meticulous and precise eye for detail.
An interest in literary fiction and non-fiction and awareness of the market would be desirable.

Salary
Starting from £33,000 pa
