Job Title: Health Care Assistant (Levels 2 and 3)

Salary: £27,082 – £29,144 per year
Job Summary
The Royal Hospital for Neuro‑Disability is a leading national centre of excellence that provides adult, person‑centred services across the entire care pathway from post‑acute rehabilitation to end‑of‑life care. The ventilation service operates two purpose‑built units – the Jack Emerson Centre and Leonora Ward – supporting patients who require complex invasive mechanical ventilation via a tracheostomy tube.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist patients with personal hygiene including washing, bathing, dressing, continence, and mouth care, encouraging independence where possible.
* Aid mobility tasks such as hoisting, positioning and use of mobility aids.
* Support eating and drinking, including adapted feeding equipment, recording intake, and feeding patients with impaired swallow function.
* Communicate with patients and colleagues effectively in challenging situations, supporting those with complex communication needs or behavioural/emotional challenges.
* Participate fully in a 24‑hour, 7‑day week roster, including bank holidays, as required; shifts may vary and include split days off, demanding high flexibility.
Required Qualifications
* NVQ Level 2 or 3 (Health Care) – desirable.
* At least 6 months’ experience in a relevant healthcare environment in ventilation – essential.
* Level 2 English & Maths (verbal and numerical) – essential.
* Ability to perform manual handling tasks with patients requiring complex care – essential.
* Health or social care related degree or equivalent qualification – desirable.
Additional Experience That Will Support Your Application
* Experience with patients having complex ventilation requirements and challenging behaviours.
* Training or qualification in managing challenging behaviours, including de‑escalation, positive reinforcement and re‑direction.
* Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support principles.
* Training in Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) and breakaway techniques.
