We are looking to appoint 2 full-time band 3 Orthoptic assistants / clinical support workers to join the Orthoptic Department at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will work between hospital sites at The James Cook University Hospital and our satellite clinic at Low Grange Health Village, Middlesbrough, with other team members.
This vacancy will close once sufficient applications have been received.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT), supporting qualified Orthoptists to provide efficient and effective service within clinical governance. Responsibilities include supporting patient care as directed, assisting in clinics, and coordinating patient activities.
The postholder will also carry out delegated clinical duties, including clinical procedures and observations, as competent, under supervision and within defined parameters, to provide individualized healthcare support.
Activities include obtaining patient history, interpreting clinical observations, conducting visual acuity tests, colour vision assessments, focimetry, OCT scans, and other tests for patients of all ages, interpreting results, and escalating to qualified Orthoptists when necessary.

Qualifications
* Numeracy and Literacy Level 2
* Care certificate
* Level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent experience in clinical care duties
* Attendance at foundation improvement training and leadership programmes within the first year
* Equipment training
Knowledge and skills
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Basic IT skills
* Analytical skills for decision-making based on observations and metrics
* Organizational skills
* Knowledge of safeguarding and NHS policies
* Experience in orthoptics or ophthalmology preferred
